At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Storke & Gainsborough announce the arrival of the Ship Oswego, and state that tensions are mounting with the Spanish. Followed by another letter dated 18 August 1738, in which they explain that they have received Capt. Langdon, and discuss arrangements for sending goods back to New York. Docketed on address leaf.
