At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Philip expresses frustration with the reluctance of the government to take the threat of an Indian attack seriously. He believes that if the 5 Nations become involved in a conflict with the French and their Indian allies, then the entire colony will be drawn into it as well. Docketed on address leaf.
