At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Riggs informs Livingston that a ship has come for Capt. Kidd and the other pirates, and expresses concern that this may cause them to lose some money. Also states that a Mr. We[iver] has been impeached before the House of Commons, and speaks of a naval conflict between France and Spain.
