At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Livingston's son John is named as the heir to Livingston Manor. The lands are divided amongst John, Philip, Robert, and Gilbert, while the houses in the town of Albany are divided amongst Margret and Johanna . His wife was to receive land as well, contingent on her "pure widowhood." Livingston further names his wife as executrix of his will, and divides the estate of his parents and that of his wife's parents equally amongst all his children. He wills the sum of £50 along with clothing and "necssaries" to his nephew Robert .
