Written by Knox as Secretary of War to Hodgdon as Commissary of Military Stores. Concerns invoices sent by Hodgdon and others. References Hodgdon's letters of 28, 29, and 31 December 1789. Says he is pressed for time and can only say that he will not allow payment for charges submitted by Captain Emes. Knox says Hodgdon can settle his own accounts with the Treasury better than he could. Is disappointed that some Philadelphia post notes, which Knox wanted to send to Hodgdon for remittance, have not arrived yet. Says he will answer his draft of 1000 dollars for Hodgdon's pay for 1787-1788. Says he paid Colonel Callaway 350 dollars for his rent in Virginia.
