At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Account of supplies, weaponry, and ammunition recieved by Company "I" 7th Regiment Rhode Island Volunteers in May of 1864. Items are all on hand for Company use at the time of the report. Items include bootees (for infantry), rubber ponchos, knapsacks, haversacks, canteens, axes, camp kettles, mess pans, camp hatchets, hatchet handles,drum heads and snare, shelter tent pieces, and various bookkeeping supplies for clerical purposes.
