Willcox announces the Union capture of Alexandria: "Alexandria is ours. One Company. Captain Ball, mounted, thirty five men and thirty five horses (Captured) I regret to say Colonel Ellsworth has been shot by a person in a house." Directs bottom portion of the note to General Mansfield (possibly Joseph K. F. Mansfield): "I understand there are troops of the enemy at Junction." "Junction" possibly refers to Manassas Junction.
