At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Three parts. First part dated 15 August. Details his journey to view the land and states that "for about 1 mile the land was very poor, but the Inhabitants a long the River are very thick settled and have plenty of Wheat, Barley, Rye, and Corn." Goes on to further describe the land and property.
Second part dated 16 August. Note stating that the following note confirms the value of the land.
Third part dated 7 September. From D Cams to Thomas Vose. Note that "I wish to have the terms, price, period, of payment &c, am which one or two thousand acres of the northeast corner there of will be sold - a number of good settlers d. be placed on the same in a short time. Noted as a copy. Watermarked "Curteis & Sons" and with a hunting horn in a crest. "Free" stamped on address leaf with no signature. Letterpress copy.
