Discussing his attempts to earn payment from settlers for lands belonging to Knox and other financial affiars of Knox's. Discusses purchase of materials, the poor outcome of a merchant voyage by Captain Henderson, construction on Knox's estate, his plans to make pot ash and sell it. Inquires if Knox still plans to visit the Waldo Patent "the ensuing year." Asks "If it were possible for you to be able to give Deeds the next summer to those who have been forward in making payment, it would have an excellent effect on those that are at present indifferent about trying to pay any part." Many of the settlers on Knox's land believed that it belonged to them and refused to pay for it.
