At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Marked "copy," and all signed by the same hand. Deed from the Governor of Massachusetts, the Council, and the House of Representatives granting the children and heirs of the late Samuel Waldo a tract of land to be divided between them. Heirs include Samuel Waldo, Francis Waldo, Lucy Winslow (wife of Isaac Winslow), and Hannah Flucker (wife of Thomas Flucker). Signed by Governor Francis Bernard, A[ndrew] Oliver on behalf of the Council, and James Otis on behalf of the House of Representatives.
