At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by Martin Brooks and George and Polly Ulmer who are likely witnesses. A sworn statement by Martin Brooks attesting that Caleb Brooks paid him $300 for a "grant Bargain" and the sell of over 85 acres of land in Ducktrap, Maine. There is also a note at the bottom of the letter from George Ulmer.
