At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by several members of the Standing Committee of the 20 Associates. Committee writes to ask Knox for a complete survey of the entirety of their territory. The committee explains the nature of the survey they want, the boundaries of what they would like to be surveyed, as well as why they need a survey.
