At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

References Tyler's letter of 19 December. Thanks him for taking care of his business with zeal, "although I regret greatly that you did not entirely go through every occupied lot on Long Island." Is impatiently waiting for "such details of proceedings and characters of individuals as may be necessary for me to know - I am aware of the disorders into which the estate is known by the late neglects of it, and am very desirous of such information as will enable me to correct them." Tells him Henry Jackson will settle his account. Appears to be a press copy.
