At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to explain that he has prepared a wharf for ships to use (apparently in the Boston area) as well as a sizable storage area for goods, which he would like to sell or rent to the government if they think it might be useful to them. Lists several references who know about his project, and asks whether Knox thinks the government might be interested.
