Apologizes for not writing sooner but explains that he was held on "public business" in Elizabeth Town, New Jersey. Mentions a petition he gave to General Benjamin Lincoln. Focuses on matters of personal finance, such as his possible purchase of an estate in Cumberland and land featuring a lime rock farm, which strikes him as a good investment due to the possibility of renting the land and selling the limestone.
