Telegram from Colonel J. C. Paxton to Brigadier General Scammon from Buffalo, West Virginia informing that 400-600 Confederate troops mounted on stolen horses are six miles to the west. Requests a steamer from Charleston, West Virginia with three boxes of hard bread. With autograph endorsement signed by Scammon ordering Paxton to Charleston and instructing to send a messenger from Buffalo to Bridges. Also marked at the top received at 9AM by Scammon with initials. On stationary of the U.S. Military Telegraph. Year inferred from content and from Scammon's rank.
