Meade signs as Captain of Topographical Engineers. Discussing telescopes, writes: "I...am aware that in increasing the field, other things remaining the same, we lose power. I have no doubt the glass you are now having made will be satisfactory in all respects..." Requests chronometers, watches, and almanacs. Inquires as to the procurement of a "[Detorsion?] Bar" (for a portable declinometer) in London.
