At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

King and Gerry, members of the Continental Congress, transmit information concerning two acts of Congress to Bowdoin, Governor of Massachusetts. States that these acts (not included) contain instructions to an unspecified foreign minister. Requests Bowdoin's secrecy regarding the transmitted information. Instructs Bowdoin to forward the information to John Adams, Minister to England. Slightly torn on the top of the second page.
