At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Certifies that he received from William Leach $18 for 1/8th of a share of the prize money from the privateer ship, the Pilgrim, commanded by Hugh Hill. Part of collection of receipts of the Lovett family. John Lovett was a privateer ship merchant and captain in Beverly, Massachusetts. He served as the agent for the Pilgrim's prizes. He was deceased by 1806. Leach was represented his estate.
