Published by Kurz & Allison at 76 & 78 Wabash Avenue in Chicago. Pristine colored image, dominated by the greens of the trees and grass, shows Union infantry of the 1st Iowa regiment emerging from the woods to attack a Confederate line in the background. Depicts the moment of General Nathaniel Lyon's death. He is shown lurching backward from his white horse after being struck by a musket ball. A bugler blows his horn and officers urge their men forward despite the blow to the general. Smoke is shown throughout, but blood is absent, despite several wounded troops in the foreground. Matte burn around the entire image.
