Various articles on diplomatic relations between Great Britain and the United States. Preface states the articles first appeared in the "Boston Daily Advetiser." Claims "There is no subject of greater present concern than the position of England in reference to her relations, as a neutral nation, to the United States; and none, probably, soon to become of more engrossing public thought and anxiety." Gets into the history of neutrality laws and discusses British support to Confederate blockade runners and other incidents on the high seas. Is against British recognition of the Confederates as lawful belligerents. Says "it is marvelous, that, when a word from her of revocation, or threatened revocation, of her recognition of them [Confederates] as a lawful belligerent, would instantly suppress these atrocities, or render their future perpetuation impossible" (page 69).
