Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Massachusetts General Court, fl. 1862 Proceedings in the Legislature of Massachusetts, upon the Act of the State of Maryland appropriating seven thousand dollars for the families of those belonging to the sixth regiment of Massachusetts volunteers, who were killed or disabled by wounds received in the riot at Baltimore April 19th, 1861.
