At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Addressed to "Gent." Discusses the necessity of purchasing goods from England by fall, or at a greater expense, purchasing them in the country. Requests a meeting about this issue. Postscript states the letter need not be sent to Mr. Carroll Barrister as he is out of town. Docketed with date and "B:C" on verso.
