At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

This poster features a quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt concerning the spirit of brotherhood. The quote reads, "We are fighting for the right of men to live together as members of one family rather than as masters and slaves. We are fighting that the spirit of brotherhood which we prize in this country may be practiced here and by free men everywhere. It is our promise to extend such brotherhood earthwide which gives hope to all the world. The war makes the appeal of Brotherhood Week stronger than ever." This poster is OWI poster No. 33, and has the number 505560-O-GPO. Brotherhood week took place February 19-28, 1943.
