At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Not signed. Written by Parsons as a member of the Isthmian Canal Commission to Walker as President of the canal commission. Typed copy of letter sent to Walker; written on Isthmian Canal Commission letterhead. Says that he is resigning to give the president liberty to reorganize the commission. Expresses appreciation for being selected to serve on the commission.
