Written by General Knox to Colonel Hay. Sympathsizes with Hay for the loss of his house. Tells him that with Washington's permission he will send an artificer to work on the wooden half of the house, but that it is out of his power to send a mason because "We have but one who knows his right hand from his left professionally and he is employed in such public works as are indispensible." This is Knox's response to Quartermaster Hay's earlier request (see GLC02437.02095).
