At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Keifer, a United States Representative from Ohio, apologizes for missing Hunt when Hunt recently called on him. Hunt was possibly attempting to consult Keifer regarding a bill that would grant him the rank of Major General on the retired list. Keifer cites his address and times when Hunt can call in the future. Written on House of Representatives stationery.
