Keifer, a United States Representative from Ohio, replies to a request from Corbin (refer to GLC02382.124). Indicates that he will support a bill which would grant Brevet Major General Henry Jackson Hunt, Colonel retired, the rank of Major General on the retired list. States "I will vote and work for this bill when it comes up. I need not say any more; I recognize the fact that he deserves it and I vote that way as a universal rule at all events. Whenever a soldier deserved and wants any thing that I can give him I take it for granted that he is entitled to it." Written on House of Representatives stationery. Keifer served as Union Brevet Major General and as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
