One letter to George N. Willeston from George Mosher dated Brooklyn, April 16, 1865. Describes rent prices going up, and the feel of New York after President Lincoln's assassination. Businesses closed and people draped black crepes over the windows. Envelope included.
This letter was sent two days following Lincoln's assassination. His funeral train route was over seven days and 444 communities. His body was on view at the City Hall in New York City on April 24, 1865 for one day before passing on to Albany, NY.
