At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One resolution detailing an assembly in Connecticut which took place on May 1, 1825, regarding the removal of the "great national evil" of slavery as voted by the Ohio legislature. Signed by Secretary, Thomas Day. An official copy printed on the second page dated June 1, 1825, sent to the Governor of Pennsylvania requesting to be presented before the General Assembly of Pennsylvania. Signed by Oliver Wolcott.
