At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One wirephoto released by Associated Press, dated March 24, 1961. Shows President Eisenhower in casual clothing standing behind four microphones making a statement. Beside him is James Mitchell, former Secretary of Labor. According to the embedded press release Eisenhower told the press that President John F. Kennedy's policy on Laos conforms to his own.
