At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Booklet about the history of the pledge of allegiance. This booklet includes printings of letters that detail the history of the pledge. It also contains a section on the modifications that have been made to the pledge. The booklet has been written in, mostly shopping lists and notes. There is also the name Mary Scrull, and Mary Flippine written on the inside front cover.
