At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Newspaper clipping of the gruaduating class of Tuskegee Army Air Field on August 4th that Eugene W. Williams was in. There is a black and white photograph of the graduates in uniform in front of a P-40 fighter plane, according to the news clipping. Euegene Williams is the last man on the right of the row of men standing. Below the photograph is a list of the ranking, home town, and name of the graduates. Eugene Williams is the last one listed.
