At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Cordelia writes to her children telling them to report interest on their bond because their names are all written on it. She asks them to let her know when they do. She will cash the bond she has and then send a check. She is praying for all of them and sends her best. She signs off, "Mom."
