At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Concerns the cession of lands west of Missouri River, their removal, and the remuneration they will receive. Authorized by President Franklin Pierce. Treaty arranged by George W. Manypenny, Commissioner on the part of the United States, and the leaders of the Otoes and Missourias on 15 March 1854 (and ratified on 21 June 1854).
