At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Concerns the cession of Miami land in Indiana, their removal, and the remuneration they will receive. Authorized by President Martin Van Buren. Treaty arranged by William Marshall, Commissioner on the part of the United States, and the Miami leaders on 23 October 1834 (and ratified on 22 December 1837).
