Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

He notes he has been in service now for a year and 5 days. The news from Charleston is very positive and it looks as though Fort SUmpter will soon be theirs. He ehard a rumour that Gen. Grant will control of the army of the Potomac.Willard will probably get a furlough soon.
