Issue is dedicated to General Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox. Prints the correspondence between General Lee and General Ulysses S. Grant leading up to the surrender. Prints general orders. Includes articles on the fall of the Confederate capital at Richmond and lists the buildings destroyed by fire, who owned the buildings, and the cost of each property. Publishes an open letter to the people of Virginia from various senators in order to call an emergency session.
