At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Article titles include The Church and the Army and Prayers During the War. A variety of religious articles examining the repentance of David, prayer (with a note encouraging readers to pray for prisoners of war), self conscience, superstitions, etc. Includes a few poems -- one war song and two poems about religion.
