Appeal for the Union by Andrew Johnson of Tennessee, South Carolina Dissatisfied & Preparing to Secede Again. Extracts from a speech by Andrew Johnson of Tennessee appealing to preserve the Union are matched next to extracts from a speech by a Mr. Carlile at the Virginia State Convention. An editorial examines South Carolina's desire to secede, while another believes that North Carolina will never secede. Minutes from union meetings held in Orange and Ashe are printed. U.S. congressional acts include an act to organize the territory of Nevada.
