At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Prints a "Message of the Governor of Florida," which denounces the Emancipation Proclamation and supports Confederate conscription and war taxes. "The Army of Tennessee" provides information on the location of General Johnston's troops. Includes a list of Confederate appointments, accounts of troop movements and battle reports, advertisements, and local news.
