Dated "1/2 past 3 o'clock." He writes: "On examining the votes of the electors in the presense of the Senate and House they were as follows for: Thomas Jefferson - 73; Aaron Burr - 73; John Adams - 65; Chs. C. Pickney - 64; John Jay -1. We have ballotted, as States, four times & Mr. Jefferson has eight states- Mr. Burr has six, and two are divided."
