At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses Election Day in the territory. The gentiles have formed an opposition party, and since Judge Eckles has no opposition to the army voting, Moore believes the Mormons will be surprised and angered by the election results. Mentions that Horace Greeley recently visited Salt Lake City on a journey to California in July 1859.
