Full title is "Free Masonry and the War. Report of the Committee Under the Resolutions of 1862, Grand Lodge of Virginia, in Reference to Our Relations as Masonic Bodies and as Masons; in the North and South, Growing Out of the Manner in Which the Present War Has Been Prosecuted." Written by Baxter as Chairman of the Grand Lodge of Virginia. Ordered to be published by John Dove, Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Virginia. Printed by Charles H. Wynne in Richmond. Report written as a "vindication of our position, and the position of our country in the present conflict between the Confederate States and the United States." Claims misrepresentations against the order have been proliferating. Says they believe in states rights and that "In withdrawing from the United States we have violated no allegiance." Stab-stitched in original wrappers.
