Written by Mary. Even though he is not home she is glad she is able to write and receive letters to and from him. She is looking forward to the day when she will not have to worry about writing or receiving letters and instead can talk to him. Writes that she is feeling much better. Before she was so unwell that she could not leave her room but now she can go up and downstairs as she pleases. Writes that Father is feeling "very much down" and has been sick for two or three days. She is also sorry to have read in his sister Cordelia's letter that her health is so poor. She is very sad and wishes she was not so because she is writing him. Hopes that he will be able to come home soon. Gives some details on a few people who visited while she was sick. Writes that James is in Iowa and has sent a letter. Discusses the weather. Wishes that he could see the garden and to send him some flowers. She is becoming anxious that she has not heard from him for some time now. Wonders where he is and what he is doing today. She hopes that he reaches Atlanta, Georgia. Asks him if he will return to his regiment. She does not want him to go back into the regiment if he is not ordered to do so.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
