Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Tenth annual volume of a periodical journal that resembles the Gentleman's Magazine and London Magazine in format and style. 12 monthly issues bound in original leather. Includes many engraved plates. Indexed at the end of the volume. Printed for A. Hamilton, Jr. Book is boxed. Includes a caricature attacking Catharine Macaulay's wedding to Dr. James Graham in issue 10 p. 623 as "The Auspicious Marriage!" Also includes much on the American Revolution, especially Burgoyne's speeches in Parliament, "Description of Newfoundland," and "West Indies" with a fold-out engraved map.
