At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Second edition. Published by William W. Wheildon. Signed "John C. Lee, Esq.: With the respects of E. Everett." Everett, a Massachusetts Congressman, commemorates the heroic stand made by Massachusetts militiamen against advancing British forces on 19 April 1775. Includes names of soldiers who fought during the battle of Lexington and an appendix listing the order of services of the commemoration.
