At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Apparently written by a sister of Johnston Livingston. She reprimands Johnston for his neglect to write, and notes that the family is anxious since they heard he is failing. She mentions that their sister Sarah sprained her ankle, and relates her thoughts regarding the romantic nature of the countryside. Address leaf on p.4.
