At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by both Coursey and Philomen Lloyd. They thank the Sinnondowannes for their outstanding loyalty, and ask that they renew their peace agreement. The Sinnondowannes are also instructed to hand over any Indian that has murdered a white man or destroyed his property, and to maintain a peaceful relationship with colonists' other Indian allies.
