[English] Version.
Sir
In the moment that is most critical in my enslavement, today I address myself to the Council of the United States of America. It's at Mr. Lean the Captain Lieutenant Paulo Friere of Andrade that I ask for an appeal at your kindness. Today I will sacrifice, maybe by the Regency for a total of 46 piastres that is missing in my account, I would like for you to lend this total to the honorable Mr. Tobias Lear in the insurance that his goodness will not be missing in giving grace at the kind officer. I expect mister at the river with the letter from Spain soon as he is in the return my total. In an affair, I would like to ask my friend about your kindness. You should give this total because he would do everything that's possible to pay it back before Lazaro. Your sensible heart and generosity gives me the insurance to the free on my encumbrance and respect.
I am with consideration and respect
Sir
Your humble servant
Paulo Friere of Andrade
Captain Lieutenant
Alger the 23rd May 1808
